Our Work
The Challenge: Print Annual Report, Endowment Report and President’s Message that will have consistent image quality and unique binding requirements.
High quality printing is always expected for an annual report. Many times Annual Reports will have unique printing or die cuts which we often provide solutions for but this Annual Report had some unique binding requirements as well.
Paper: Covers for each were printed on 130 lb. cover EuroArt Gloss, white Text for each was printed on 100lb text EuroArt gloss, white.
Ink: Printed 4 color process + Flood Satin Aqueous coating Size: 8.5″ x 11″
Pages: Endowment and Annual Reports – 36 pages+ cover President’s report – 68 pages + cover
Bindery, and Personalizing Solutions:
We saddle-stitched the Annual Report, plastic-coil bound the Endowment report, and we Symthe sewed the Presidents Report.
The same printed sheets were used for the annual report and the endowment report so it saved the customer money by not having extra make-readies on the press.
Personalized sheets were added to the Endowment Report and we had to make sure each person received the right personalized sheets in their copy of the report.
Also, we applied a BRE to the inside of the covers with a removable glue dot.
The client needed a high quality book that could be handed out and deliver high quality images and content. The book had 21 custom tabs dictating the need for a significant amount of handwork. They needed over 10,000 copies and to press check the work as it was completed. From start to finish over 250,000 tabs were printed and die-cut in-house. This book represents a great team effort for Carter Printing. The initial engineering and design production was reviewed and press runs were determined. The large 56 inch press ran the printed pages, and the 40 inch ran the 21 custom tabs. Then each printed tab sheet was die-cut in-house and the bindery department Plastic Coil Bound each book with 595 pages of content plus a fold out page and a cover sheets.
The client had a tight deadline for this auction catalog and their existing printer could not meet the requirement. This led them to contact a competitor whose catalogs they valued. That competitor has been a loyal customer of Carter Printing and gladly passed our name along to them. What’s even more impressive , both of these companies are in California.
Once the files were received, we realized the page count was 33% larger than anticipated and larger than anything they had done before. While this added to the scale of the project, we also realized their standard method of delivery might be a problem. The staff at Carter calculated that the finished catalogs would not fit in the USPS $4.95 Priority Mail Envelopes they normally used and would in fact have to be shipped in the USPS Priority Mail Boxes…. at a cost of $10.95 each. This issue was discussed with the client and our solution was to reduce the artwork a few percentage points to create an 8 3/8 x 10 7/8 catalog instead of the 8 1/2 x 11 originally desired. The savings was $6 each for 3,500 catalogs or $21,000. Our print quality is excellent but providing solutions that help our clients is why we receive those recommendations and generate un-solicited positive messages as seen in our newsletters.
This customer needed a catalog to showcase their award winning designs. Their furniture is all custom made from natural materials. They required a printing company that could showcase the uniqueness of their designs and the subtle shades of each wood they offer. Their furniture is featured in some of the top TV shows you know. If you are looking for a printer that cares about craftsmanship as much as you do please give us a call to put our three shifts of craftsman to work for you.
The Challenge: Print many different size jobs for manufacturers
Some of our best customers are nationally recognized brands that need someone to manage and inventory their large print jobs. Maybe they need product box wraps for their packaging, P.O.P. kits, brochures or catalogs for their retailers. Even pocket folders and spec sheets for their sales force or black & white manuals that go in every box. We work hard at having the right equipment to automate and manage all the things you need as a manufacturer.
The Challenge: 32-page catalog that meets rigid branding standards
We print many catalogs and books for national brands and niche markets. Thirty-two page catalogs fit us perfectly. Customers that have product images requiring color and branding standards take advantage of the color management policies we have in place. Our proofing equipment is fingerprinted to each of our presses to assure quality. If you need print to sell your product give us a call.
The Challenge: Print event brochures with a 12-hour deadline
We printed a single flat sheet of paper 34” x 22” to yield 2-up of a 17″ x 22″ sheet finished piece that is folded to 8.5″ x 11″, 4 colors over 4 colors, for an early morning delivery. Oh yeah… PDF files won’t be ready until Friday night just 12 hours before the event starts Saturday morning. On the surface this is a simple job, but the team at Carter has the equipment and the skilled craftsman to pull this off for our customers. When a deadline is critical, and it often is, give our team of skilled craftsmen the opportunity to work for you!
The Challenge: Print thousands of brochures with 100′s of variations and nearly 2,000,000 total pieces – ships to many locations
Often customers just need 8.5″ x 11″ brochures. We have many customers that need these brochures shipped to 100′s of locations. But what can be a bottleneck for other printers is normal for us even with slight variations of each piece for each market. We have trucks running everyday throughout Virginia, Washington D.C. and North Carolina!
The Challenge: Die cuts for unique shapes and packaging
Some customers don’t realize just how automated we are and are surprised to find we can print and produce pocket folders. They get excited when they find out we have equipment to insert sheets into those pocket folders. We print packaging material that has many unique shapes and sizes. Give us a call when you need that special custom shape. We even have equipment that ties string onto tags!
The Challenge: Event Programs
Print a 72-page program 48 hours before an event, enabling the client accurate information that it’s up to date! Many can do this job but most can’t as effectively and at a low price like Carter Printing! That’s because we spent years acquiring the expertise along with large presses that allow us to run jobs on sheet sizes that produce 2.5 times as many finished sheets in the same time frame as most competitors! In addition, our vast depth of bindery equipment is critical to success. Cutting, folding and binding are very automated processes and add to the cost savings for customers. Call us when you need event materials on a budget.
